The University of Iowa Department of Anesthesia is seeking an accomplished academic anesthesiologist to serve as Division Chief for Regional Anesthesia and Acute Pain Medicine. This individual will report to the Chair of the Department of Anesthesia. The division chief will be responsible for all aspects of the UI Department of Anesthesia missions as they pertain to the practice of regional anesthesiology and acute pain medicine. The division chief will have a clear vision for advancing the specialty, experience collaborating with anesthesiologists and other colleagues, and demonstrated leadership skills in academic medicine. The Department of Anesthesia is seeking a faculty member for appointment on the Clinical or Tenure Track at the Assistant, Associate or Full Professor rank, depending on qualifications. 


These responsibilities include:


Clinical Care: Leading regional anesthesiology and acute pain medicine clinical operations to ensure consistent, high-quality patient care with efficient and innovative utilization of clinical and material resources.


Collaboration: Promoting effective collaborations among divisional faculty and other clinical and research scientists across the campus to foster a multidisciplinary approach to patient care and research.


Education: Facilitating and enhancing medical education in regional anesthesiology and acute pain medicine, ensuring that educational programs are cutting-edge and meet the highest standards.


Faculty Development: Encourage professional growth and excellence among faculty members within the division. Supporting faculty career development, fostering an environment that encourages professional growth and excellence.


Research: Drive research initiatives and innovations in regional anesthesiology and acute pain medicine, including the development of new techniques, protocols, and research initiatives that contribute to the field’s body of knowledge. 


Operations and Strategy: Overseeing the development and implementation of quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes and operational efficiency within the division.


Administration: Representing the division in departmental, hospital, and university committees, contributing to the strategic planning and policy-making processes.

Clinical Psychologist


Department of Psychiatry


The Department of Psychiatry within the Carver College of Medicine at the University of Iowa is seeking a Licensed Psychologist to join our clinical track faculty and the IDMI (Intellectual Disability/Mental Illness) program.  The candidate will join the psychology division within the larger department of psychiatry. The candidate will be an active member of a specialized interdisciplinary team of social work, nursing, psychiatry, psychology, and medicine with expertise supporting individuals with intellectual disabilities, mental illness, and severe challenging behaviors.   


Appointment will be on the non-tenure clinical track, open rank. The position is a 1.0 FTE and consists of 80% clinical time and 20% academic time.


The Department of Psychiatry is recruiting a psychologist to join our interdisciplinary outpatient team to provide clinical services to children, adolescents and/or adults with intellectual disabilities. The psychologist will be responsible for providing outpatient therapy and clinical assessment as well as education and consultation to patients/families and care providers. Incoming faculty will receive mentoring and support for growth and innovation and almost endless opportunities for collaboration. The team is involved in research projects and its members support regional and national presentations, training and publication process. The team interfaces with safety and security, nursing, and physicians to support patients with behavioral needs throughout the hospital. Working in the state’s only tertiary academic medical center offers unique opportunities for program development and application of skills for very complex patients.


The psychologist will engage in teaching at multiple levels, such as medical residents/fellows, medical students, and graduate students. Teaching opportunities include more formal didactics and clinical teaching in areas of the psychologist’s expertise. Leadership will work closely with the candidate to optimize their time to work in preferred areas of interest.

Addiction Medicine Physician


University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine


The Department of Psychiatry at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics is seeking a board-certified psychiatrist who is also board-certified or board-eligible in Addiction Medicine by the American Board of Preventative Medicine, or in Addiction Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, to join our faculty and the University of Iowa Addiction and Recovery Collaborative (UI ARC).  The appointment will be on the non-tenure clinical track, open rank. 


Primary responsibilities will include patient care on the Addiction Medicine Consult Service and in the Addiction Medicine Clinic, supervision of residents and medical students. The position is a 1.0 FTE and consists of 50% clinical time, 30% time providing education and outreach for the UI ARC, and 20% academic time, with the latter devoted to scholarly pursuits which may include research and teaching.


The UI ARC is led by Alison Lynch, MD, MS and Andrea Weber, MD, MME. The UI ARC encompasses clinical services, education, research, and advocacy efforts in addiction medicine across the University of Iowa campus.  More information about UI ARC can be found at https://uihc.org/opioid-addiction-clinic . Clinical services offered by UI ARC include a dual diagnosis partial hospital program, intensive outpatient program, extended outpatient program and relapse prevention, Medication for Addiction Treatment (MAT) Clinics that provide buprenorphine to treat opioid use disorder as well as other FDA-approved MAT medications, a Walk-In MAT Clinic, an Addiction Medicine Consult Service, buprenorphine initiation in the emergency department, case management, peer recovery support specialists, contingency management, individual counseling including telehealth counseling, group therapy for professionals in recovery, and services for people with opioid use disorder and/or stimulant use disorder who are reentering the community following a period of incarceration.  UI ARC collaborates with the Iowa Neuroscience Institute to support research initiatives in addiction medicine across the University. Research programs include those focused on molecular biology, genetics, brain imaging, and clinical trials in substance use disorders.  Additionally, the UI ARC is highly involved in community efforts to increase access to care and reduce stigma associated with mental health conditions including addiction.
